Sorry, but you're wrong. Both GPUs were running cool, and as I said, the source of the problem was found.
Further info: Dell contacted me and said they'd contacted nVidia about having to disable vSYNC to run at lower resolutions. nVidia is aware of the problem, but thought they'd resolved it in the version of the drivers I have (8.4.2.1, I think). They are going to take another look, so perhaps there will be a fix in a future driver release. The problem shows up with the 2405FPW and 2005FPW monitors, and maybe others. It's not a big deal--it just means you have to turn vSYNC off through the drivers (not the application, even if driver is set to "Application Controlled") when running at a non-native resolution.
